What are the normal blood sugar levels?
Normal blood sugar levels depend on whether you
have been fasting or not.
- Fasting blood sugar: This
is measured after not eating for at least 8 hours, usually first thing in
the morning. A normal fasting blood sugar level is between 70 and 99 mg/dL
(3.9 to 5.5 mmol/L).
- Blood sugar after eating: This
is measured two hours after eating a meal. A normal blood sugar level
after eating is less than 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L).
It is important to note that these are general guidelines. Your doctor
may have different recommendations for you based on your individual health
condition.
If you are concerned about your blood sugar levels, you should talk to
your doctor. They can order a blood test to check your levels and recommend
treatment if necessary.
