Coaching Centre New Rules
As of February 11,
2024, the
new guidelines for coaching centers in India,
announced by the Ministry of Education on January 18, 2024, are as follows:
Admissions
- Minimum age: Coaching centers cannot
enroll students below 16 years of age.
- Transparency: Coaching centers must provide
clear and accurate information about their courses, faculty, fee
structure, and
refund policy in a prospectus that is easily accessible to students and
parents.
- No misleading promises: Coaching centers are
prohibited from making any misleading claims or guarantees about results, such as
promising ranks or good marks.
Faculty
- Qualifications: All teaching
faculty must have a minimum qualification of graduation in the relevant
subject.
- Faculty
development: Coaching
centers must provide regular training and development programs for their
faculty.
Study hours and infrastructure
- Maximum study hours: Coaching
classes cannot exceed 5 hours per day, and
the total duration of all classes in a week must not exceed 36 hours.
- Class
timings: Classes
cannot be held before 8:00
AM or after 8:00
PM. There
must be adequate breaks between classes to allow students to rest and
relax.
- Infrastructure: Coaching
centers must have adequate infrastructure, including
proper ventilation, lighting, and
sanitation facilities. The
minimum space per student in a classroom must be 1 square meter.
- Safety: Coaching
centers must comply with all fire safety and building code regulations. They must
also have a first-aid kit and make arrangements for medical assistance in
case of emergencies.
Fees and refunds
- Fee structure: The fee
structure must be transparent and displayed prominently in the prospectus.
- Refunds: Coaching
centers must have a clear refund policy that is communicated to students
and parents at the time of admission. The
policy must specify the conditions under which a refund will be granted
and the amount that will be refunded.
Monitoring and compliance
- Registration: Coaching
centers must register with the concerned authorities.
- Inspections: The
government will conduct regular inspections of coaching centers to ensure
compliance with the guidelines.
- Penalties: Coaching
centers that violate the guidelines will be liable for penalties, including
closure of the center.
